Q Theatre Chair, Penelope Barr-Sellers, says she’s delighted Barbara is stepping into the role.
“Not only does Barb bring a wealth of experience to the role from her long tenure in performing arts, she is also highly regarded, effective and well-connected in Auckland and the wider sector. And as a previous neighbour and visitor to Q, she knows us well.”
Glaser starts in the role today and will lead the organisation while Q searches for a permanent CE, with an appointment expected later this year.
“I’m thrilled to be joining Q at this time", says Glaser.
“I’ve been a long-time supporter and fan of Q and love the vibe and energy of the place and team. I’m really looking forward to working with Q to grow its offering, impact, and business. I can’t wait to get stuck in!”
Q recently showcased the annual Comedy Festival, which included 166 performances over three weeks, utilising its four performing arts spaces. This year, nearly 73,000 people will visit Q, with the organisation targeting pre-COVID visitation levels of 90,000.
“We’re definitely in a growth mindset, while recognising market conditions have been flat across the sector. With our partners, we will work on further enabling a diverse range of performing artists to use our spaces and continue our focus on optimising our business. Barb’s energy, experience and fresh perspective will be a huge help,” adds Barr-Sellers.
Q first opened its doors in 2011 and has presented a diverse range of performances, some of New Zealand’s most loved, across theatre, comedy, dance. Q was the brainchild of the performing arts community, who wanted a flexible, multiform, central city space that would serve a wide range of performing art’s needs.
Q is supported by Auckland Council and a number of long-term and committed trusts and donors.
