36 DAYS TO $36K

Q: EXPOSED! is back in 2025. This annual digital fundraiser and end-of-tax-year appeal began last year as a way to raise money by “exposing” behind-the-scenes elements of Q that could really use a boost.

Nestled right in the heart of Tāmakai Makaurau Auckland, we love being in service to our artists and audiences alike. From our dedicated backstage technical crew and tireless admin team, to the friendly box office and visitor experience faces who welcome you upon arrival, this exceptional group of people pour their all into Q’s purpose of fuelling connections and igniting imagination.

But, the reality is that it takes a lot of energy to power up the machine that brings you the magic of exceptional experiences.

That’s why we need you to power up Q! In 36 days we aim to raise $36k to support the cost of the energy it takes to keep Q powered, vibrant and thriving.

The strength of the Q whānau is unmatched when it comes to rallying together for a worthy cause. We witnessed this spirit when we faced the challenge of closing our doors during COVID, and again last year when our aging, rusty HVAC system was on the point of collapse. Q was created by and for this incredible community for whom we want to remain powered up for many more years to come.

No contribution is too small, and we cherish every gift that helps uplift our role as kaitiaki of Q and supports our vision of becoming Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s most loved home for contemporary performing arts.

Donate by Monday 31 March 2025 using the button below, or, if a bank transfer is preferred, please contact Q Fundraising via support@qtheatre.co.nz.

Ngā mihi nui - thank you for being an essential part of our journey!

FAQs

What will the $36k raised during Q: EXPOSED! 2025 go towards?

This year, we’re focused on raising money towards three months of our energy bill (April/May/June) to support us in the final quarter of the 2025 financial year. Like many kiwis, we've been feeling the pinch and while this challenge is not unique, we're calling on our community for support. This is the approximate figure that three months of our energy bill will cost us.

Why does Q need our donations? Can’t it find money from somewhere else?

Q’s annual operating costs are supported by many different sources including 1/3 from box office as well as food and beverage sales and another 1/3 from Auckland Council. The remaining 1/3 is raised from a combination of grants, individual giving, and sponsorships. In the current funding climate, with money for the arts continuing to decline, Q is strategically diversifying its sources to create a sustainable way to look after its needs – allowing Q’s whānau to play a part in its maintenance for the next decade and beyond.

If Q: EXPOSED! is an annual campaign, what will next year’s campaign raise money for?

That’s to be determined! What’s exciting with an annual fundraiser is it’s a way each year to give back to Q, no matter what we decide to “expose” next.

You also mentioned this was an end-of-tax-year appeal. When is the end of the tax year and is my donation tax deductible?

Yes! The end of the tax year is always 31 March. Any donation to Q for more than $5 is eligible for a tax credit of 33.33 cents for every dollar. You’ll receive a receipt that can be submitted to the IRD.

I don't want to donate online. Can I make a bank transfer?

Of course! Email Q Fundraising via support@qtheatre.co.nz and a member of the team will get you set up for a donation through bank transfer.

What makes Q special? Why should I support this theatre?

Q is more than just a venue. We’re a home for multiple arts festivals, theatre, and dance companies as well as independent artists. The need for Q was identified after more than a decade of studies dating back to the closure of the Watershed Theatre in the mid-1990s and it was built thanks to more than a decade of effort from the performing arts community and leading citizens. The flexibility of our spaces makes them exciting with sizes that are just right for local artists. Our bar and café make us a hub for artists and audiences alike. Our programmes and audiences reflect the rich diversity of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
